[s-cars] drive shaft, knocking or vibration?

Gentlemen,
I get the feeling that several of us are having driveshaft problems, but
that there may be two different issues. I certainly wouldn't describe my
symptoms as a vibration.
Mine makes a hollow thumping noise, almost like someone is tapping on the
belly pan with a ball-peen hammer, at about the same frequency as if there
were a stick in my 6-spoke wheels.  Only there under load, and most
pronounced in 1st and 2nd gears, although perceptible in 3rd.  Oddly enough
it went away for a couple of days this weekend. Of course, it returned for
the work week.
I'm hoping it just needs some new lube in the CV, or that new tranny mounts
will take care of the noise.
