OAT Bulb Replacement
Robert Myers <robert at s-cars.org>
This requires minor surgery. Pull the instrument cluster. (10 minute or le=
ss job. - 2 or 3 screws, slip out the lower trim piece. Another 3-4 screws=
& slide the cluster out of the dash. Disconnect several color coded and k=
eyed electrical connectors behind the cluster). Remove the OAT display fro=
m the IC. (10 seconds - two small screws) Disassemble the OAT display. Ta=
ke your time and put everything in order as it comes out - nothing is marke=
d=2E Unsolder the grain of wheat bulb. Solder a replacement in its place.=
(10 minutes) Reassemble everything - aren't you glad all the bits and pi=
eces are arranged all nice and orderly? (Another 20-30 minutes)
The replacement bulb is available from Radio Shack in their display of smal=
l lights. I don't have the part number handy but it is their smallest grai=
n of wheat bulb. It comes packaged two to a package.
The only concern is just how comfortable you are with soldering itsy-bitsy =
electrical gadgets.
The behind the dash electrical connectors are locked with a variety of meth=
ods. Nothing requires brute force to get them apart. Just look closely at=
them and figure them out. Nothing is terribly complex.
