[s-cars] Battery Cable Corrosion

Battery cable corrosion happens usually because of a
problem with dissimilar metals in the cable (copper) and
the battery terminal (if something other than lead is
used), when in conjunction with a constant drain (forms a
dielectric source of problems). It can also occur if excess
fluids are arriving there (such as condensation, or a
battery boil-off). Recommend that you (and all list
members, whenever they happen to be in the battery's
vicinity) spread a layer of vasoline or electrical grease
all over the terminals and exposed cables to help prevent
future problems.
Question of the day for everyone: when's the last time you
checked your battery's electrolyte levels?

On the same note, I had corrosion several inches up the positive
battery cable under the back seat. It was acting like a big resistor
which reduced the voltage some. I spliced in a new cable, soldered it,
covered it with shrink tubing, and everything works better. I have
always used a vented battery, so I'm not sure why it happened, but it's
something to keep aware of.
