[s-cars] cooling fan kept running w/engine off and cold

Guys:

My 1992 S4 is currently acting up.  The electric fan will start turning
on and off even with the engine off and cold.  Usually it will run for
30sec to a minute but starting yesterday evening it has been running
all the time (at the slowest fan speed).  The only way to turn off the
fan was for me to pull the "delayed cooling fan relay" to prevent
draining the battery.

Anybody have any idea which sensor/controller I need to check and
possibly replace?
