Physicist Wannabe in me says these leaks are caused by dried out plastic
reservoirs, whose life could be prolonged if they are kept filled
(especially in the summer.)   Theory is that the heat is absorbed by the
fluid and not the plastic.

Why bother having such a large reservoir if you have keep it filled you
ask?  H2O injection system of course.
