[s-cars] Audi 100 avant quattro towbar failure

Greetings from Ireland !
I wondered if any of your members have experience of the above problem.
We tow an old horsebox as a windsurfing trailer and after a recent 220
mile run the rear bumper had sagged such that the bumper was burning on
the exhausts...
It seems that the chassis box sections into which the tow bar slots have
buckled where the securing bolts go though. The tow bar does not appear
to have any central attachment to the chassis so on a "force X distance"
basis the loads must be quite high.
Most car tow bars advise a maximum "noseload" of 50 -75 kg and a check
with the bathroom scales confirmed 100kg from our horsebox - probably
not much different to any other. Any thoughts on the problem and how it
might be repaired would be most welcome. A lighter trailer ( that still
doubles as a changing room in winter) is also under consideration !
with thanks
Andrew Macey
