[s-cars] Tire Recommendations

FWIW, I would never buy HTR-ZII's again. I bought them after rave reviews
on the list. I've got them in 245/40-17 on 17 x 8 Superleggera's on an S6
avant with Abt/Eibach/Bilstein Sport suspension. The tires go square
sitting less than a day. They are horrible after sitting three days in an
airport parking garage. I live near New Orleans, so I would have expected
them never to go square because it rarely gets cold here, but they do it in
the heat (92F/90%RH today) just as badly, if not worse, than in milder
temps. Of course, that may be the incompatibility problem here. I've run
or am running Dunlop SP 9000's, SP 8000's, SP 4000's, Ecsta 712's, Pilot
Sports, and even old P700Z's and NONE OF THEM did or do this. They were
replacing the SP9000's on the avant when I got them. The above tires have
all been run on two urq's and two S6's, all with somewhat modified
suspensions.
ON the plus side, the Sumi rep, after initially implying that I didn't
realize that performance tires can go a little square, got me second set to
see if they'd be better. They were, but only nominally. I thought they'd
get better after a few thousand miles after hearing back from some listers,
so I kept them. They haven't gotten any better, or barely at all, at best.
They are excellent in the wet and very good in the dry, although some
listers say that ability, and the road noise, increases after about 10k,
which is where I'm at now.
I'd go with T1-S' if you've got the $$$. Others of note: Pilot Sport A/S'
are highly rated. They are now challenged by the aforementioned
ExtremeContacts. The ES100's are probably the best deal out there in many
ways ALTHOUGH they tires of extreme interest to me right now are the Pirelli
PZero Nero and Nero A/S, which may make all the other options moot,
considering some of the feedback I'm hearing on them.
Just one man's experience...
Maybe I can destroy the Sumi's at Barber in November??
