[s-cars] Shock boot and strut bearing replacement! Any BTDTs?

Greetings, Bjorn;

I've replaced the boots on a Type 44 with the struts in the car but I've
never replaced the bearings. It may be possible - you could remove the
spring with a spring compressor that fastens to the side of the spring and
this should allow you to remove the bearing. I haven't BTDT though.
To do the boots I unbolted the shock at the top mount, compressed the shock,
extended the spring, and slid the boot through the spring coils. It was a
bit tricky getting the top of the boot on, but it is possible.
In your case you will have to remove the spring to get the bearing out, so
replacing the boot would be easy. To do this job with the strut in the car,
I would guess you would have to remove the shock to remove the spring to
access the bearing - taking a good look at the Bentley should shed a bit of
light on the procedure.

Subject: [s-cars] Shock boot and strut bearing replacement! Any BTDTs?

As I have a lot of clunks and clacks, as well as some shimmy at high
speed, I'm about to replace the steering damper, shock boots (just
rubbish left) and and strut bearings.
Is it possible to change the shock boots and strut bearings without
removing the struts from the car? through the top, maybe?

I appreciate any advice!
