Burigs secret plan to have his 'cab' prominently displayed has been
foiled by 'Ray cer Tape" Tomlinson getting the door open and the car
being moved. Jeff Posto and his lovely date and wife, Heidi arrive for
yet one more day of fun.
Folks are gonna be here soon. Four poster pavillion is moved into
position at the end of the driveway as the official meet N greet station
and fatherland flag hung.
Now next door or kinda up in back lives PK's neighbor Jeff. PK seems to
have some issues WRT Jeff or vice versa .and I cannot imagine why?? But
Jeff has chosen this day to celebrate his 30th birthday =oO and has
even made a nice little sign with colorful little feathers to post at
the end of his driveway. This sign is soon to be lost in a sea of S
cars and Jeffs Escort driving friends were warmly waved to by many an S
person.
Finally I get to meet Ed Walsh whom PK fondly refers to as Edweirdo. I
guess I can admit now that my own avant couldn't make it because Ed was
trying all the parts on his car chasing some non existent problem. "No,
really you and Pizzo come and drive it" he foolishly offers. Ewwwkay!
We can do that. I take it on a spirited run out on I84 with Ed and
Pizzo riding along. Not balls to the wall mind you, but passing
everything in sight. All seems okay too, but then what do I know?
At the underpass, Pizzo takes the helm while I belt myself in back.
He's not kidding about that drive it like you stole it thing and in no
time the cabin air is acrid with burning brakes / clutch. I love that
smell. WOT is all he knows. Pizzo goes "Oh yeah I feel something then
it backs off." WTF is he talking about I think to myself??
Off the highway now back on to Susan lane and the car is making awful
grinding noises when put into gear.
P- "Ed, I think I broke your car."
Ed- "Hmm oh that's okay."
P- "No, Ed, ..I broke your car!"
Ed- "No, ..really that's fine, okay, what ever."
Me- "Hey, I drove it too" gimme some credit.
Whatever Pizzo did, it went away after the car cooled for an hour. I
attribute it to bubbbbling hydraulic fluid. Ed promises to get big
reds. Wants to be like everyone else... And that my friends, simply
wont happen;)
The bright and sunny day passes amongst the tall trees of the
neighborhood with the harmonic chirping of little birds shattered only
by melody of numerous three inch exhausts in the distance. Yeahhess!
Oddly they seemed to come not through the trees but from above.
Taka's there wondering 'Wheres uncle Bob?" Held up in traffic/held up
in traffic. He's turned around twice but rumor had it his son told him
to keep going. He finally shows. Must be 5:30.
What's he going to do to top last years PISS install?? Somehow he did
it by taking the Avant and totally transforming it into something that
looks exactly like a 'cherry' triple red ZR1 Corvette. Way to go Bob!
Paulies gotta try this. He's taking Bob for a ride. Brian in the GT2
lines up right behind with Bobs lucky son Steven aboard as shotgun.
ZR1 takes off down Susan Lane squeeling tires, motor roaring really
screaming. Slows to make the left on to the main drag just as the GT2
is launched...sideways.... second gear.... sideways again...unbelievable
sound just as the ZR1 can be heard taking off in the distance. GT2
makes the left and the two motors can be heard in stereo ...above the
trees, seemingly from heaven. Just friggin unbelievable! Who can
forget Ed Walsh doing his own special little appreciation dance in the
middle of the street...dancin ..screaming I don't know what (wetting his
pants possibly?) Just hilarious!
Two minutes later, an unfortunate M3 takes off trying in vain to follow
that act. Big mistake.
Upon reflection, what made this "Happening" so great was the total and
complete lack of formality, purpose and pure spontaneity. I don't know
if it can ever happen again in this format/venue, but it sure was a
blast.
Wherever and whenever it is next year if there is a next year, I'm in
for a road trip and with luck will bring my own phantom car:)
Cheers'
Bill M -still wondering -who were those grid babes?
Ps Again; special thanks to Paul and his 'hot' wife Jen for making (and
allowing) this event to happen; Thompson for his effort and work and to
the sponsors for providing Ed with all those cool prizes:)
