Chris;

It is a long-standing Audi tradition to use headlight switches and wiring
that are barely capable of handling the current drawn by the OEM bulbs. From
conversation with another lister, I gather the ballasts in the GP HID kits
draw around 20 amps on ignition. If you don't use the relays, you will
eventually burn out your headlight switch. At $300 or so for a new switch
cluster, this could get a tad expensive after a while.
If the HID kit supplier went to the expense of supplying relays and a
harness, there is probably a good reason for it.
The ballasts on my kit (not one of the GP kits) were modified to draw only
10 amps on ignition and I have verified the current draw, so relays were not
necessary with my kit.

I got the HID kit from the GP. Did everybody's HID kit come with a harness
and
a relay wiring per side.

I really would like to bypass the harness/relay and would like to get the
power directly from the headlight switch.

Any ideas on how I could do this?
