[s-cars] 2069 tool for front strut replacment

Thanks to everyone who responsed about my strut removal.

I needed to pry the plastic cover off the bottom of the nut to get a better
grip on it with Mr Pipe Wrench(and squirt the bottom with liquid wrench). I
sadly don't have access to a welder. Problem was that with only the top of
the nut exposed the 14" pipe wrench was hitting the H&R spring behind it and
causing it to twist and slip off.

Now to allign it and see if I should have modified my camber plates...

Ed

Hi Ed,

I'm surprised you're having a problem in removing the strut insert cap with
a
pipe wrench. I was just doing this last weekend on Paul K's car to tighten
the caps in an attempt to chase down some suspension noise. Paul's car has
H&R lowering springs and we were still able to get the pipe wrench on, so
with your stock springs you should have more room. One question. Are you
trying this with the front end jacked up? This will allow the suspension to
fully extend and give you room to get in there easier. Also, there is a
small plastic sleeve on the cap that holds on to the bottom of the rubber
bellows/dust boot. Push that down to give you more of the cap to grab on
to.

With regard to the Bilstein tool, you should have definitely received one
with the struts. Call Bilstein in North Haven CT. 1-800-745-4636. They
should be able to send one out to you. Worse comes to worse, you can use
the
pipe wrench again, or I may still have mine laying around that I could send
you.
