[s-cars] RE: clutches

Spec commented to me that some manufacturer of flywheels was having some
issues with manufacturing them to oem spec, no pun intended. At the
time they where not sure which one it was, so just to be safe they had
me send my flywheel to them and have it checked, and the preload set on
the flywheel itself. Afterwards they said that they didn't think that
it was the flywheel manufacturer that I had used that they had issues
with. This could be the reason for your slipping?

Folks,

WRT clutches. don't get me started!

It's documented that I hold a one install lead over PK at 3-2 and will
some time in the next six months go up either 4-2 or 4-3. Some of the
issues are my fault for idiot install, such as once with coolant hose
bracket bolted in between trans and motor. One can become very quick
at this given enough drills, use of a lift and a helper it could be a
four hour job I think.

My current Spec II III or IV (not really sure WTF it is) is quite
drivable but still slips under mega HP acceleration.

I think part of the issue is that NEA often has most everything drop
shipped from Spec, never sees it and if they did, who knows whether they
would check it. For instance I have two supposed stage II discs in my
possession that are similar but different and oddly enough Sachs made
one of them. The other has the mfr. machined off.

Currently installed is a springless Sachs disc of some sort. 6 pucks of
metal and ceramic I think. Should grab like Paris Hilton on a late
night date. FWIW with this set up I have zero chatter with the six
speed. I actually think the pressure plate may be too weak. Or the
wrong one? Whatever.

I'm waiting for divine guidance on the ultimate urS clutch. And
besides, it won't be long before I have to install the FMIC to create
slippage even faster;)

Cheers'
