Hi George;

I just replaced the rear seal on the tranny on my '94 S4. I used seal 01E
409 400 and o-ring N 905 452 01. You may also want to have a tailstock
bearing on hand in case you slip up with the press and ruin the old one.

There are several of these 5 spd gearboxes for the different Audi models and
the rear seals are different.

I have a leak on rear side of transmission. Looking at ETKA I am truly not
sure what to look for as the 5 gear box is marked AXN and so on, I suspect
the seal (N 101 292 01) but I'm not sure if I have the right box .....

Anyone knows?

Factory G0050 is not bad stuff, it's full synthetic gear lube, 75W90 GL-4,
IIRC.

I'm running Redline MT-90 as are many other listers. I find the Redline
seems to make engagement of reverse more difficult in cold weather, but
shifting seems a bit smoother.

recommended trany fluid for the S4/S6 and where is the best source?
