Paul,
You may be thinking of Volcano Black Mica. I have it on my '99 A6, and it's no
longer offered as a color choice. It's a charcoal gray, very dark. In certain
lighting situations the car can look to be a medium to dark gray and sometimes
it has a forest green metallic tint to it.
