[s-cars] Well, I did it.

I gave myself the best Christmas present ever. I bought a new hood
cable but when I tightened the clamp at the end of the cable I obviously
didn't tighten it enough. It fell off when I tried to open the hood. I
now have a permanently closed hood. Good thing I just did the VCG,
plugs and fuel filter. If I ever want to get this thing open again what
is the procedure? I remember reading it on the list but I deleted the
email thinking this would never happen to me.

Yes, I also posted about this a bit earlier.
I've compared the wiring diagrams of the Euro and US versions of the
'95 A6/S6 models to see what the difference was.
It's not a difference in what parts are used, but in how they
are wired; it's theoretically possible to take a US-spec 95 A6/S6
and rewire it, and the comfort close will work from the IR remote.
Briefly, this is the theory:
On US-spec cars, these things are wired together:
1) the switch contact on the door lock switches when the key is
held in the close position
2) the input to the central locking module that says that
the car should lock
3) the input to the window and sunroof controls that says that
the windows should go up, the sunroof close.
Further, there is an un-used pin on the central locking module.
This is the "confort close should activate output." Call this (4).
On some European cars, (3) is detached from (1) and (2) and is connected
to (4).
I can provide more details, but it's long so I am trying to avoid
blasting it to the entire list.
