Subject: [s-cars] Burning Oil
Well guys..I just rolled over the 150K mark on my car this
weekend...going about 120 too on E-470 ;-) Really enjoying the new K26
Hybrid Turbo from Innovative. Man what a night and day difference!
However I do have one concern and its not related to the new
turbo...is I am burning some oil. Around 1qt per 1000 miles of usually
hard-driving. I don't see any noticeable smoke coming out of the tail
pipe.
Questions:
-1) How do you "burn" oil? I have read via the rings and valve stem
seals. I understand how leaky stem seals could leak oil in to the
combustion chamber from overhead.
But I don't understand: -1b) How cylinder walls/piston rings
themselves are lubricated, in general, and
-1c) How could oil slip past the
rings in to the combustion chamber? (above question should answer this)
-2) Is there any solution to this problem besides an engine rebuild?
I do have plans to have the engine rebuilt this Summer with Rods, Rings,
port and polish head etc..but need a short term solution..if there is
one
Thanks
cp
