Morning-
Question about a 'miss' in a friend's 95.5 mit 1+. Figured it had to be
wrong plugs or the like after I drove it Friday. Nope.
Spent some time with it yesterday. New plugs that were installed in Dec.
were in fact the correct ones, with new boots. Plugs tight and looked good.
Re-torqued, visually checked & wiggled all wires going to/from PSO's and
coils (the depth of my knowledge, sad), all looked good.
Re-drove, here's the interesting part. Before, the miss was more
pronounced, and didn't want to let the car rev much past 4k under load in
higher gear or bogging low gear. After fiddling, now the miss seems to be
more low rev related. Bog the car, it's there, but it is GONE after 4k and
car runs fine. In other words, troll in 3rd @ moderate revs, say 2.5-3k,
drop the hammer, it stumbles for a sec then irons out fine. It's bizarre
that the miss would 'move' after we played with the plugs and jiggled all
the wires.
I always thought ignition related things would be more pronounced as the
revs increased, progressively breaking up. It almost 'feels' like it could
be fuel related. He picked up some injector cleaner on the way home for
giggles.
Thoughts? I'll probably have him back over to try swapping PSO's and coils
I guess, but thought I'd run it past the collective insanity here.
At least his cooling fan is nice and quiet...
TIA.
