[s-cars] ice!

Of course you always have to watch out for soft spots at ~7" from currents closer to the shores. Many many years ago I was out ice fishing with my uncle, he owned a "International 4x4 Pickup", that truck was a beast, and I mean a beast ! Ya it was big, but it was more mechanically rugged than any truck I've ever seen, when it got traped he'd put it in 4 wheel drive and it would hop and buck like a rabbit out of anything... anyway, that one sunny afternoon out on the ice driving slowly along all 4 wheels went through the ice and the truck was sitting on it's axle's... yikes, My unlce decided to cut down a tree on the shore and began to jack the truck up (really dumb idea), all we heard was a huge "crack" and a large circle formed around us... back away slowly everyone... He went back the next day after a really cold night, chipped the wheels out and drove out !

Now back to your regularly scheduled Audi program ;-)

Paul,

If you plan to come for an Ice Trials, don't wait too much. Conditions
change but weather too. The ice was over too feet close to the border but
one or two warm week and it's gone. Even with 4 feet of ice in the middle of
the lake, if you can't reach the middle, too bad. Anyway, you'd better plan
end of Feb, just to be sure. And let me know. I wouldn't want to miss an urS
rage on ice for anything.

Vincent.

Actually Vincent, surprisingly enough, I believe all that is necessary to
support the weight of a car on ice is ~ 7", IIRC. A warm week ain't puttin'
much a dent in 2 FEET!

Run with BMWCCA in NH well well into March, FWIW. I wouldn't be too
concerned, especially considering the winter we've had to date. Hope to see
you and others there!
