[s-cars] Eibach springs for S4 PERCH NEEDED FOR THESE

Let's be careful here...
How is a spacer used in the front of the car? The spring perch in the
front is fixed (welded) to the strut. Spacers do work for the rear of the
car, though.
The original Eibach fitment for the 100q/S4 cars was set number
1529.140 Given that these cars were out of production by '97, and few
people seemed to lower them then, Eibach apparently quit making the spring
set in the late 90s or 2000.
About 2 yrs ago, enough interest and someone off this? list (sorry, name
escapes me) convinced Eibach to wind a new batch of springs for a group
purchase. Alas, they apparently used the wrong spec, and the resulting
springs were too short for the rear of the urS4/6. I think the spring was
intended for an auto-trans FWD car. The simple solution (not necessarily
the best) was to create a spacer ring to fit between the shock circlip and
the spring perch. IIRC, they later replaced the springs with the correct
ones, so that no spacer was required. Another solution is to have a
machine shop add a new groove in the shock body for the circlip at a
different location, thus raising/lowering the spring perch (really lowering
or raising the shock relative to the spring--ask folks who reset their
coil/overs the wrong way--lower the car = raise the shock into the
spring=make the spring longer :) If you have your shop machine multiple
groove into the shock, you have a poor man's version of a coil-over for the
rear.
Has Eibach started making these springs again? Check the p/n stamped on
the springs--they should have 1529.xxx on them, both fronts and rears, if
they are like the original versions of this set. The group buy springs had
different p/n stamped on them.
