Bob,
I think there are some threads on paint chip touch-up and clear bra
installs. There were some installs done at the 2001 nationals in
Denver. They were 3M scotchcal but were custom cut on the spot. This
is the recommended stuff for paint protection. The stoneguard is to
prevent glass breakage and is much too thick for large curved surfaces.
I saw a dk green TT at ALMS in the corral and talked to the owner.
It was a first class job, almost invisible. He even had the brow above
the windscreen, the a-pillars, and rocker panels covered. He had his
scotchcal job done by <www.invinca-shield.com> in N. Wilkesboro, N.C.
They use a computer controlled pattern cutter to cut the kit.
Unfortunately, they don't have a URS4 or 6 kit. I bought the 95 A6 kit
but have not installed it yet. Scotchcal film is easy to work with.
It is slipped on with a soap solution and bubbles and moisture removed
with a squeegee. Obviously, the film likes a warm environment to mold
to the curves of the car. I have planned on just adding to the fender
flare areas with hand cut pieces. The factory would make a URS6 kit
if someone would take them a car to pattern from. I'm considering that
if this kit doesn't work. Oh, yes, there are "installers and dealers"
around, but I wanted one with some previous jobs to see, and
references. There weren't any short of N. Wilkesboro. I was also
delayed with the installation looking for someone to touch up the paint
chips on the bumper cover first. Still haven't found one besides the
guy in Boulder, CO. that can match pearl white.
I didn't get stone-guard because Paul at Puma was selling replacement
euro lenses for not much more than what stoneguard cost. I don't know
what the cost is now.
