[s-cars] Help!! Car doing weird things.

When I went to drive my 1992 Audi 100CS 5 spd today, it started fine, drove
fine for about 1 minute, and then I hit 2000 RPMs at which point it made a
funny noise like it was dying and then lost all power.  I slowed down then
tried accelerating again and it went fine to 2000 rpm, made a funny noise
again and then lost all power, I kept giving it gas till my foot was on the
floor with no reaction from the car, all of a sudden the check engine light
blinked and the car took off, once it had accelerated about 20 more miles an
hour it bogged down and lost all power again.  1st gear and 2nd gear get me
up to about 25 miles an hour before losing power, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, you
can't even get to.  I am figguring it is an electrical problem since once
the check engine light blinks it takes off, I just have no idea even where
to start looking for something like this.  If anyone can give me some ideas
to start off with, I would greatly appreciate it.
