Folks:
This thread comes up occasionally, especially in when the use of generic O2 sensors is dicussed.
The thread usually comes down to personal opinions and personal experiences...
I found the official Audi position on whether repairs should be soldered or crimped at:

Bottom line, repairs should be done using a proper crimp, vs a soldered joint.
Good indexed crimping tools (with replaceable dies) can be found in electronics stores, online, even at Homey Depot in the cable tv connector area.
The preferred die for the crimping tool has is called a "B" crimper.
