[s-cars] PS pump leaking- NOT at the X-plug

John;

Some listers have had some success with having the hoses rebuilt at
hydraulic hose shops, but a lot of these rebuilds seem to result in noise
and/or vibration from the steering system. You have to re-use the ends from
the old hose and make sure the restrictor valve in the middle of the hose is
installed. Conjecture is that the flexy Audi hose and foam insulation is
designed as a system to suppress noise and vibration.

Hi All,
The PS pump on my car (Canadian 1993 S4, 193,000 km) started leaking a few
weeks ago at the high-pressure line, the one covered by black foam that runs
from the X-plug to the accumulator. I used up one big bottle of fluid per
week. Dealer wants $500 cdn for this line.
Has anybody experienced this before and is there any fix instead of
enriching the dealers. You input will be much appreciated.
Thanks.
John Hosi.
