[s-cars] infra-red key

The contact is a dome switch element. (Click dome) The biggest problem
with these, (I've worked 10 years with a keyboard manufacturing company,
www.keytouch.no, and most domes do 5 million ops. easily..) are that
they have to be ventilated to work. (see the little canal to the left
lower side of the dome, on the last picture.)
This ventilation also picks up dust and other contaminations, and the
point where the 'dimple' meets the PCB gets dirty. The finger contacts
are self-cleaning. A pencil eraser is a good idea, as you don't really
want to remove the gold plating on the PCB.. (I actually saw a jerk
sanding off all the gold from the edge connector of a PC card on time.
'It looked dirty' he said. The card never worked again.. ;o))

If some pins of the components on the PCB are corroded, (some people
perspirate a good deal in their hands, or carries the keys in their
pocket all day..) just clean it off with electronics cleaner and a
toothbrush. It's a big chance it'll work again.

Just my .01?..
