Greetings All,
Now that my '87 5kcstq is nearing 250K miles I decided it was finally time to
upgrade. Shunning newer cars, I had my sights set on a mid-nineties A6.
Finding nothing nearby I expanded my search to both A6s and S6s and, voila, I
found a gorgeous '95.5 black-on-black S6 a mere 45 miles from my house.
...and there was much rejoicing.
I've secured the car with a deposit but now I have to wait until the end of
March before my finances will allow the final purchase of the car.
(Ironically, the radiator in my 5kcstq grenaded two days ago--I think it's
jealous.)
The new S6 has 80K miles on it. It has a pristene body and everything
works. The only serious flaw I could find is that the steering rack appears
to be leaking. Naturally, this set off the proper warning bells and was
heavily negotiated into the purchase price. Fortunately, I live close to
Jorgen Automotive (http://www.jorgenauto.com) and will install one of their
lifetime-warrenty rebuilt racks after the purchase.
Checking the service history on this car revealed that the previous owner
replaced two injectors and three coils in the last 18 months. The owner
confessed that he "once" powerwashed the engine. I'm wondering if this
wasn't a more common practice for him. I'm also wondering if these
components are typically replaced in the 75K-100K range. In fact, I'm
wondering what other replacements I should be ready for as the 100K milestone
nears (comments appreciated).
In any case, my work commute clocks ~100 miles per day and I decided to treat
myself. I'm looking forward to the new ride.
Best regards,
Paul
