Jim:
You are correct, mintex has red box, then 3 c-tech compounds
1144/1155/1166,
I run red box in the winter, 1144 during track season.
red box have better manners on the street (mine have no squeal), and the
1144's are great for track and fine for street until it gets cold
outside. Then they have no bite and get noisy. I usually swap them out
with the changeover to snow tires, and put in the reds. Then in the
spring, I get to lazy to swap back, and find myself removing cooked red
box pads for 1144's after a run or two at the season's 1st track
event.....shit, VIR is still 3 1/2 months away!

Guys,
Keep in mind that there are different versions of "C-Tech"
There are three compounds, when I ordered my big brake kit, Tom screwed
up and sent me the Mintex RedBox pads in error, then was out of stock on
the C-Techs. He told me to get them elsewhere and said there is only
one kind for the 993TT caliper. I checked with a Porsche parts supplier
(Zim's) and they said yes, the C-Tech only comes one way for the 993TT
caliper and they sent me a set. Lo and behold, once Tom got his
backorder situation figured out, he sent me a set too and it was
DIFFERENT. Both sets were labeled C-Tech in factory boxes with factory
labels, except Zim's sent me the 1144 compount (aggressive street, and
light track (as in Q-club events etc.), Tom at ECS's pads were the 1155
compound, which is for heavy track and light competition use. These
pads have a LOT of metal particles in them and look to be pretty harsh
on the rotor. I currently have the 1144's installed and am VERY happy.
Low noise, some dust, stops great on steet and track (for me, YMMV).
There IS also an 1166 compound available, which is for racing
applications only. In any case, I wanted to pass on my experience and
would venture that for most of you guys that aren't happy with the
Mintex RedBox, the C-Tech 1144 would be great, but the 1155 would be
overkill. If you think I am full of it, then you probably know enough
about pads and your own driving needs to know you need the 1155 pads
:-) In my case, I have the 1144's on the car and keep the 1155's in
the toolbox at the track just in case.
Check out this website for more info on the C-Tech compounds:

No, I am getting ready but not quite using the C-TECH pads Tom at ECS
recommends, and at this point it is solely on his recommendation, 4 days
to
install and counting. He says it cures all the problems with the reds
and all
his customers seem to really like these- the mention of the pads was not
a
bessing for one brand over any other, just a blast on the soft red-boxes
and
the need to get pads that dont melt when you slow down from 140( excuse
me if
I have misquoted you Tom, but that was my recollection).
