 Hey Paul,
   This is getting old isn't it. The weird thing about this is why would they
change all the 6 speeds to the wide first in 95 and then just decide to put
the narrow first back in for the fairly powerful new European S-4? When I
bought my tranny that was my main concern and I made that very clear to Blau
who called to confirm that the first gear was the widened and hardened one.
So if it is not, someone pulled one over on me and I don't think it would be
Blau since I am a preferred customer there and he is going to have my car on
the front page of his new web site as well as in his add in the next Quattro
quarterly. I wonder if there is more than one DSY type tranny? Anyway I have
put around 4000mi on mine so far with no problems and have done some 6000rpm
launches which result in lots of tire spin. You can imagine how I felt when I
heard about the first gear issue. I still only have one dowel in mine. I
sprayed a little black paint on a spot that I would be able to tell if there
was any movement and so far there has not been any. I also have been checking
the bolts once a week to make sure they don't loosen. Anyway I will call
around and see if I can find out more about this.
