[s-cars] 3B ECU part number, anyone?

Thanks. I would venture a guess that the reason for the two different numbers
is because the first 3 digits denote the model family but I could be wrong. If
I remember at all correctly, the first group is model (as in 100, S4, A4 etc),
the second group is component group (electronics, lights, interior etc.). Then
the lst group denoted the specific item (as in left headlight, ECU, front
seat). I coul dbe wrong but that would explain why the first three digits ar
different and the other 6 are the same. The letter (or letters) at the end
denote the version - generally minor updates to the code etc.
VW codes work the same way.
I would guess that a good partsperson (if that exists) could eventually look at
a part number and tell you exactly what the part is just by interpreting the
code.
If anyone can confirm or clarify further, that would be great.
Thanks,
Jim
