Can anybody discuss the pros and cons of each? Trying to decide if it's
worth it to go for a 95.5 S6 Vs. a 95

Thanks. I would venture a guess that the reason for the two different
numbers
is because the first 3 digits denote the model family but I could be wrong.
If
I remember at all correctly, the first group is model (as in 100, S4, A4
etc),
the second group is component group (electronics, lights, interior etc.).
Then
the lst group denoted the specific item (as in left headlight, ECU, front
seat). I coul dbe wrong but that would explain why the first three digits
ar
different and the other 6 are the same. The letter (or letters) at the end
denote the version - generally minor updates to the code etc.
VW codes work the same way.
I would guess that a good partsperson (if that exists) could eventually look
at
a part number and tell you exactly what the part is just by interpreting the
code.
If anyone can confirm or clarify further, that would be great.
Thanks,
Jim

I agree on everything except the last letter bit.

As an example, wheels listed in the FA are as follows:
pn width dia ET Ian's description
4A0 601 025 B 7 15 45 8 spokes
4A0 601 025 D 7.5 15 40 6 tapered spokes, not AVUS
4A0 601 025 E 8 16 40 5 spokes
4A0 601 025 M 8 17 40 10 spokes

Looks like Hans und Franz have some fun at our expense by changing just the
last letters.

This looks like it might be for current generations of the A4 and A6, which
eliminates our older generation A6-derived luvs. Say it ain't so...

    James,

The DIN spacers I bought were for a 96.5 A4, which used the same Bose
deck in my S6, so I am assuming they must have more than one kit available.
I checked out their online catalog, but they no longer illustrate the old,
but still good, goodies. Feel like taking a short drive and reporting back
to us?

    Thanks,

LLTEK's shop is 5-10 min drive away from my work, but is this DIN
radio kit standard? I mean will it fit the UrS-cars? or only the new A4's...
I don't see how it would fit the same contour. If there's enough interest I
can check for you.

LLtek sells DIN radio fit kits (blanks that screw in). Same matte
finish as
stock black plastic, so look totally stock, and fit contours of
factory
cutout. I installed a set in my A4 back a few years ago - cost $35
for the
pair, IIRC. James, aren't you friendly with the boys at LLTek? Want
to
give a call and see what kind of deal we can put together?

Okay, so we've got the oversized Delta unit in the later '95's and
'95.5's,
as in my avant. However, the early S6 sedan I picked up has the diff
switch
and therefore has the cigarette lighter up on the right side of the
console
and has a reduced space for a unit. In fact, the PO had replaced it
with a
normal DIN Alpine unit; the fact thta the idiot just hooked them up to
the
Bose in the rear deck not withstanding.

SO, the question is, can that little cigarette lighter section be had
and is
it all that would be necessary to convert to a normal, or maybe still
slightly oversized, DIN space? you'd have to dual wire the second 12
volt
hookup, but I'd appreciate another one of those anyway....phone and
radar.

Anyone know the facts on this?

By the way, Mark, on my sedan I can't imagine fitting 5 1/4" or 5" in
the
door location...maybe a four inch, but I've got to pull the cover off
and
      look.

      Thanks,

      Steve

Actually, yes, I do agree, it denotes color of interior trim in other cases.
In the case of an ECU though I would guess it is some slight code thing. I
priced S4/S6 ECU's from a few dealer a while back and they all came back
with
the same part number but slightly different ending letters.

Rahal's dealerships
don't include Audi, I wonder what David Letterman drives?

<NAC>

I'm not sure if you're speaking about THE Dave letterman, he's been know to
zoom up and down the Merritt Parkway in CT in a Por*che, getting pulled over
