Recommendations:
Installation - none specifically from me outside of making sure the
cable is taunt when the brake handle is up and disengaged when down
(which is too obvious), and to ensure the rear brake pads/calipers are
still good while you're at it.
Preventative maint - A heavy coating of spray silicone if you live in a
snow-bound location, repeat every 6 months. White lithium grease if you
live in a rain & heat location, repeat every 4 months. This will help
prevent this problem from reoccurring. I'm not sure about this specific
model, but if it travels inside a sheath (like a bicycle gear cable or
a motorcycle throttle cable), there are spray kits specifically for
lubricating these sheathed cables (designed to be applied from one end).
