[s-cars] EDL Vs. Manual Diff Lock

Triple torsen would be fun, I've thought about this too.

The 01E transmission installed in the rear of my 968CS has a (optional) torsen differential.

Since the rear differential in a 968's O1E is the same as the front differential in a Audi 01E, one might think its possible to fit 968 Torsen bits in a Audi O1E.
Not sure how feasible this actually is, 968 torsen was an option and seems to be a desireable upgrade, therefore Im sure the parts aren't cheap at all. I havent heard of anyone doing this upgrade by replacing parts, just by replacing the whole transaxle.

I have heard little information about LSD's in the front of a AWD vehicle, but when used in FWD they seem to help power distribution but sacrifice steering feel.

On a side note, I don't necessarily believe a center Torsen sucks. I think the advantages of it far outweigh the disadvantages for a road car.

Anyone rich up for being a guinea pig?

So, Keith (and Scott and the list in general), what say you about Torsen in
front, too? Sounds like Keith, Scott, and Herr Kluge agree that a central
Torsen sucks. Well, we're stuck with that. It also sounds like Torsen plus
EDL is the cat's ass. Rear Torsen on our EDL 95.5 and later cars sounds like
a good idea. What about the front, too? It's not impossible, Hummers do it,
so rotational differences due to turning must be surmountable, somehow. The
spider bite effect on the steering wheels might induce some kickback, would
be the only pitfall obvious to my tiny little mind. Any real zingers not
apparent to me? One leetle detail, where would one get a front Torsen? Rear
can come out of a V8, but a front?

Great summary Wayne!

Jeremy, my personal suggestion is to buy a 95.5 with EDL and then install a
Torsen.
