Marc -
Back in the early to mid 80's, we'd advance the timing on (manual
distributor) GTI's and pick up some "free" horsepower. As they say, it
really, really works. The early knock sensors on these cars would dial
the timing back a bit, if things got too ragged. As to applying this
trick to later model Audis, I'd say this guy is trying to drum up money
for the kid's braces or something. I'd give it a pass.

Heh heh heh, amen. Even more heh, my silly 'lil TR3 has a dial on the side
of the distributor so you can hop in there and crank her up in an instant.
I call it the "wheel 'o fun". B-I-G f'n difference in pow. Though crank
too far and she runs hotter than one of Pizzo's prom dates 8-).

Of course, dem dere sillier Brits probably put it there so owners could
actually have a surviving chance of maybe considering the possibility having
their cars run right, ifonly for an instant. Kinda like the manually
pumpable fuel pump. Or the remove starter button under the bonnet. Or...
