YMMV, Everybody has different cost/performance/happiness criteria.
That being said, here is my EUR 0.02 on the stromung...
I like the Stromung, consider it money well spent.
Regardless of 2 hp improvement, 15 hp improvement, or 5 hp loss, I'm happy with it.
I like the way it looks, I LOVE the way it sounds.
The sound of it alone has made a significant difference in how pleased I am with my S4 when I am driving it.
In my book, that's the most important criteria for spending money on the car.
The "Added Lightness" of the Stromung is also a benefit in my book

Well, the Stromung weighs about a 3rd grader less than the stock system...
and it sure
'looks' as if a ton more air could flow through the big 3" pipe. At stock
boost levels though,
I don't think the stock exhaust is overly restrictive, my guess is the first
bottleneck would be the EM or something further up the chain. You are
moving from dual cats w/stock to 1 cat with the SS,
but the DP on the SS is more streamlined than stock...
I don't think you go for an upgraded exhaust if you plan on remaining stock,
but start turning up the boost and adding RS2 goodies, I'd guess it's a
must.
I'm just thinking aloud, I would like some hard data too!
The stainless tips sure are purdy tho'
