I've seen a tiny 1 cylinder diesel motor as a third-party OEM dealer
option for extreme cold weather Audi's delivered into the Scandinavian
countries, but it was applicable only to diesel engines (drew fuel from
the same primary fuel tank). I don't remember seeing any gasoline
powered alternatives, or electrical powered block heaters, although I'm
fairly certain both are available.
The diesel one was slick -- you hit the remote, it started the one
cylinder (think weed eater engine). The engine's power output went to
circulating the coolant through the block and heater cores, while the
heat output was dumped into the coolant itself. Once the coolant
reached a certain temp, the interior fans started, defrosting the car
and warming the interior (about 15 minutes in -20 weather). Because of
it's tiny size, it consumed negligible amounts of fuel. It cut off when
you started the car, and had a timer-over ride as well (in case you
started it and fell back asleep).
Good luck on finding a gasoline version.
Best wishes,
