VW used to sell block heaters for their diesels. I'll bet this
is still an over the counter kit for current diesels.
I'll bet that I4 & I5 blocks use the same size freeze plugs, which would
mean you could put a VW diesel block heater kit on your I5 real easily.
Speaking of block heaters ... I have to tell you the story of what I found
on a visit to Prudhoe Bay Alaska last year. Most of the oil company vehicles
used for running around town are Ford F350 4x4 4 door turbo diesels. In the
winter when these are parked, they use 3 block heaters and a ceramic heater
in the cab - and they never turn them off! Be glad we don't see -60F!
