[s-cars] 93 Infrared Key Not Working - Update

Fluorescent lights interfering makes sense, sort of, but why selectively? If
the IR stuff works with the key on, but not with the key off, that would
lead me to believe it's a key-off power issue, not a fluorescent lights
issue. At least in this case.

Bruce, one thing to be aware with the Audi Infrared system... it doesn't
work in underground garage with florescent lights. The florescent light
seems to bugger the sensing system and you can't unlock/lock your car, you
have to use the door key. This is my experience anyhow, and I've never
gotten it to work in full florescent lights, sometimes in partial light it
will catch, but most of the time it won't... it's a major pain in butt.
Just so you know...
Cheers, /James. '93 S4

Boy, your symptoms sound the same as mine. I tested the voltage of the
batteries and the resistance of the key with and without the button
depressed. I found that one of my keys didn't have a very reliable button.
Sometimes it would make contact, others it seems like it wouldn't. Still,
even with the good key, it took a few times of using the below procedure to
get it to work.
I waited 5-10 seconds after the 1st beep, then turned off the car, then
tested the key once and that's the procedure that worked the best. It's
still working now....
