I've used Compressor International and was very happy with their rebuilt
unit. Contact name was Fred, price was the best I could find -- IIRC $237,
about 4 years ago.

Subject: [s-cars] Re: A/C Compressor Needed
I have a bookmark to www.compressor-intl.com/index.html, so must have
been mentioned on the list at one time or another. They carry Bosch
compressors -- might check them out. (No affiliation, no nuthin'). I'll
need to replace mine, too, before the summer months. Audi uses a "wobble
plate" design, which can vary the output and avoid that annoying on-off
cycle of lesser brands -- Vorsprung and all that. Downside is that the
unit is not the most robust out there. Mine's sounding more than a
little grumbly -- more like playing cards in the spokes. :-)
