The problem with that plan is that German cars undergo a very rigorous
inspection biannually (every other year) or annually (military members
and the like), and most cars never make it to the 10 year mark, much
less to the 15 year mark. Typical expected lifespan is about eight to
ten years before repair costs make replacing the car better alternative
for most owners. The place to get steal-deals is any military base,
where personnel leaving for the US or other parts of the globe have a
fixed deadline for sale (by date of departure) and often sell cheap as
a result. The place to find good, reliable older cars are always
smaller towns off the beaten path (population centers with 50,000 to
100,000 people are ideal).
