Dan,

Bill Gates 959 spent 7 years in US Customs and was, during this time,
vandalized by a disgruntled employee. The car was later released and
registered in Washington state on a 2500 mile a year exhibitors permit.
After a while, the car was federalized in California (fitted with cats,
dynoed, etc) and properly registered with no mileage limitations. Since the
car had not been started for a period of 7 years, it developed leaks and
therefore shipped to Germany and resealed by the factory - the cost was
about as much as a brand new Audi S8 (Audi content here).

I am counting the days until the time I can buy an early 1989 20v ur-quattro
and bring it to Canada.
