[s-cars] Not blind, but still can't see....

Well, seems as though I've got a minor issue here and am in desperate need of some help. Late Friday night, as my warning light for low windshield washer fluid came on, I pulled into a gas station to fill up. Open the hood with the release, but no release. So, I got home, got out some pliers and gently pulled on the cable enough to hear the obligatory clunk of the hood releasing. EXCEPT that it was only the left/driver side. NOT the passenger side. I just recently got a CD copy of the Bentley, so I thought would be a good time to load it up. Not a chance: couldn't get the registration to work. (Insert expletives here). Checked out the archives on both mailman lists and yahoo list, and found a few references, although none of them worked for my particular dilemma.
By this point, air temp was a balmy -18C and after I got the belly pan off thinking I might be able to reach something from below. No luck (insert more expletives here). I finally said screw it with salty snow stinging my eyes and put the pan back on to make the commute to ski country for the weekend. Had to stop every once in a while to spray the window with WW fluid in a Windex bottle. Grrrrrrrr.
ANYway, does someone have an idea as to how to access the passenger side hood spring/lock mechanism to open it without the cable? Any chance that it's less complicated than what I've tried so far, as this am was -33C in my driveway?
