[s-cars] Power Steering Pump

Hi Mark;

If it spit off the s-belt, the pulley on the pump was probably installed
backwards. The pulley is stamped "This side Out" or something to that
effect. If installed wrong side out, it is about 1/4" out of line and will
eventually throw the belt (thereby endangering the timing belt).

I put a new o-ring (Audi part) into the damn thing, and it leaked soon
after.
So, being feed-up with the whole trying to save money thing, I had a rebuilt
one put in.
It spit off the serpentine belt 2 days later 100 Miles from home. I
tightened 2 of the 3 bolts with visegrips of all things ! Nice tight spot
and all.
That lasted about 1 mile before the belt came off again at high revs (high
considering...). So
belt shredded and bolts missing, I called the flat bed.
On Monday they ripped out and rebuilt the unit again, locktighted the bolts
and installed a new belt. It's been fine for 10000 miles or so now ! YMMV.

As to what I would do again, I would have to say .... Buy an RS6 !
Of course that will be my answer for all my current problems. Very few
fortunately.
BTW, are any coming to Canada.
