John: Before you go too far on "replacement", check for a broken wire in
the harness between the door and the a pillar.  I had a problem with my
drivers door speaker and it was just a wire.  Take the speak out so you
can see the colour coding of the wires and then pull back the rubber
boot (gently from both ends) and check for wire breaks.  If you find
one, it can be repaired with a crimp-on butt-end connector (after you
strip a bit of wire away from each end of the break.).  If you don't
find a wire break at least you tried to save some money.
