Robert,
The Dremel is one of those must have tools; like Crescent wrenches and
Channel Lock pliers. I would use the cut-off wheels on the Dremel and
plan to go through about 10-15. Have a nice day.

Your quick and dirty method sounds just fine to me. Now how do I get
the blinkin' things out in order to do that Q&D fix? Use my Dremel?

An issue many of us have experienced. If memory serves, there are two
bolts conveniently located behind the plastic part which holds the
plate. These hold the plastic piece to the deck lid. Unfortunately,
the plate is held on by four bolts which attach to spring-held nuts
which go into square holes in said plastic piece. They almost
invariably rust, and when you attempt to unscrew them, they break the
plastic piece. My quick and dirty (inelegant) way of resolving this is
by using new nuts, stainless bolts, hot glue and duct tape on the back
to hold everything temporarily in place. I am hoping never to have to
remove the plate again.

Hi Y'all,
I'm finally getting around to installing my now long overdue (long ago
bought and paid for but not installed) license plate tag year sticker
for
2004. I find that the screws holding the rear plate are being held
quite
firmly by the rusted backing nuts which, in turn are not being held at
all
by their retainers behind the trunk lid sheet metal. The screws spin
quite
freely without any sign of coming out and releasing the plate.
My first inclination would have been to spray liberally with WD-40 but
there appear two (at least) reasons why this is unlikely to be
successful.
1. There is a plastic protective cover over the plate designed,
supposedly, to protect the plate from the elements. and
2. Even if I were to get the rust loosened with WD-40 there is
still
apparently nothing holding them so that they will still spin freely with
nothing productive happening.
I have pulled the inner carpet cover of the trunk lid and see that the
plate mounting screws do not penetrate into the interior so I can't grab
them from inside the trunk.
Once the job is accomplished I will get a new cover and new screws/nuts
and
apply some antiseize but in the meanwhile, suggestions? Sacrificing
said
cover and screws is expected.
Please let's don't start another antiseize thread. ;-)
