Kevin,

You're working at cross purposes here. Good snow tires are tall and narrow.
Good summer tires are short and wide.

A 225/50 series tire (or 55 series) is awfully wide for good snow work,
particularly where you live. For instance, I run a 205/55 16 winter tire and
a 255/40 17 summer tire.

If you *have* to run a single tire winter and summer, try the Nokia NRW in
the 225/50 16 size. I run this as a winter tire on my wife's A6 quattro (in
a 205/55 16 size) and it's a great snow tire and a very good summer tire.
