Snip.

All true. I've sold a few high dollar items on ebay, including a Range
Rover, some high end networking gear and an antique Breitling watch.

In my experience the key to a successful transaction is connecting with each
potential buyer *before* the end of the auction. Represent the item
completely - lots of pictures and details, request that any bidders contact
you prior to bidding to iron out any details, and talk with them over the
phone.

In my listings I reserve the right to cancel any bid from a bidder with
little or no feedback if they don't contact me first. And I do. I don't want
jerks ruining my listings by bidding and then backing out because they
didn't know what they were bidding on...

If you connect by phone, your likelihood of successfully completing the
auction is substantially higher. Simple human nature.
