Last weekend, I was in the Avant on Rt. 9 in NJ, and noticed a beautiful
1969 z/28 Camaro a few cars ahead of me as we approached a red light. The
car was hugger orange, with twin white stripes down the middle. It looked
to me like a genuine 302/290hp indy pace car. In order to get a better
look, I made a fairly aggressive move around the cars in front of me so I
could get along side the Camaro at the light. This amused the Camaro's
50-something year-old driver, who took my move as an invitation to race --
and he looked over at me laughing as he smoked the wheels when the light
turned green.

Well, I couldn't just sit there, so I did the obvious thing. I hit the gas
and passed the sucker. No fuss, nothing dramatic, just a soccer mom's
station wagon blowing by one of Detroit's best from the muscle car era. At
the next light, Mr. Camaro refused to even pull alongside, so I never did
get a chance to say a proper goodbye. I just wish I had my kids in the 3rd
row seat so they could have waved to him! Stealth is what I find most fun
about the s-cars, particularly the Avant.

Rice does not equal stealth.

And one of the things I like most about our cars is the stealth. To mere
mortals, they look like dime a dozen Audi sedans or soccer mom wagons. They
don't notice that the car sits low to the ground, that the tires are fat,
that the driver grins when snow is forecast.

To cops they're mostly invisible. Who are they going to notice/pull over - a
boring green Audi wagon or a bright blue WRX, black BMW, etc...?

On the other hand, those of us in the club do know. I was at the town dump
the other day and a guy walks by my car and says "nice license plate" (It's
URS6). Turns out he has a 2.7t. We talked Audis for a while...
