[s-cars] Bike rack recommendations?

I agree with Lee. I travel appx. 400 miles several times a year with 2-3
bikes and a roof box on my Thule roof rack. I used to use a frame lock and
was concerned about too much movement of the bikes on the roof. Switched to
fork locks and get 0 movement.
I also have wheel carriers that go on the Thule bars - you lock your quick
release hubs into the carriers and the wheels are good to go.
I've also noticed that removing the seats makes a noticeable noise
difference, FWIW.

Personally, I'm biased towards removing the wheel, for a couple of reasons:
1 - the bike is lower, which makes it less likely to whack something
2 - the bike is lower, so there's less stress on the mounting points (I'll
let you mechanical engineers explain why)
3 - the fork mount is more stable than the wheel mount
It doesn't take that long to pop off a wheel...the only PITA is then
stashing the wheel somewhere. I stash mine in Campagnolo wheelbags and shove
them in on top of the wife's fine clothing.
Did have a tube explode in a hot car one day. Car was closed, sun was hot,
wheel was fully inflated. Then it wasn't. :(
I also have a bra-like device that i use to keep the bugs off the front of
the bike and the grease in the headset. Looks kinda weird - black spandex
etc.
