[s-cars] Power Steering Hose - Banjo fitting insight requested

I'm hoping some kind lister will save my weekend. :-) Please.
The power steering pump-->rack hose sprung a leak on my '93 S4.
Getting the part was bit of an odyssey as the new parts guy at Prestige here
in Denver was having trouble. After three attempts, got what looked like
a good match. (silly me, didn't fell like dragging the oily hose through
the dealership)
The new part (4A1 422 893 Q) is identical to the old one in almost
every respect
except for the banjo fittings. The old part's banjo fittings are larger
and have
grooves machined into the top and bottom surfaces for O-rings. The new
part's banjo
fittings have the same internal diameter (the bolts fit exactly in their
respective ends)
and the same thickness, however the fitting is smaller in outside
diameter, with
simple machined surfaces top and bottom.
This isn't the first time I've gotten a revised part from Audi, but given
the cost
of this hose, I'm not feeling particularly adventuresome. Also, I fail
to see how a
metal-to-metal interface will hold up against the hydraulic pressure. Do
they just
install O-rings on the bolt, above and below the banjo fittings? Seems
like that would
really distort the O-rings (particularly the top one) on tightening.
Any insights? BTDT? Anyone have a torque spec? Not that you'd get a
wrench
on the rack end (all 3 degrees of swing and tight to boot).
Many thanks to anyone with the know-how.
Cheers,
-Phil
