Marc,
May be that's the remaining of Saturday night but I read that Jet-Hot
claims a reduction of engine bay temperature, not exhaust pipe, by
_reducing_ heat dissipation on the exhaust pipes... but may be the
alcohol vapors damaged my brain much more than expected ;-)
Vincent.

Serge's comments did lead me to the Jet-Hot site, and I found this bit
as well:
( reference: http://www.jet-hot.com/pages/headercoatings.html )
JET-HOT TDC - In applications where heat must be dissipated rapidly,
this rough, black coating (with a temperature tolerance of 1,300°F)
combines color and surface profile to lower temperatures within exhaust
piping.
This reinforces my original concept of the necessity of heat
dissipation.
Cheers
