The tension in the timing belt is adjusted by the timing belt tensioner, not by the waterpump like the older Audi I 5's.

General rule of thumb for Audi I5 engines, is to replace the water pump (and
its O-ring) when replacing the timing belt. Given the effort to get at it, for
$45 or so in parts, it's cheap insurance against O-ring or shaft seal/bearing
failure...especially since to adjust timing-belt tension, the pump must be
moved, breaking its O-ring seal against the block.
